I used to pass this field many times each month and knew there was a photograph here. I tried several time to capture the Autumn colours, wheat, or other crops, but none of them excited me. Then I came across this one Winter morning and knew I had it! The snow was falling gently, but un-noticed in this image, but the soft glow of the breaking sun on the trees made the photo. Printed 6 feet long, this is my best selling canvas print.
SS Keewatin in Winter at Port McNicoll, Ontario
Photographed January 20, 2019
https://sskeewatin.com
It was a very cold day (-30c) but I was determined to get out and photograph some local landmarks. The SS Keewatin was first on my list and I wasn’t disappointed. The weather was perfect for lighting and the row of lifeboats made for a great lead-in.

My all time favourite location to shoot sunsets. I used to drive for more than an hour to get here, and now I live about 5 minutes away. I’ve won several awards with images from this location, this image included, which earned the Award of Distinction from Master Photographers International and lead to the Nature Photographer of the Year award in 2016.

I was driving to Sudbury along Hwy 69 early one Sunday morning to give a presentation to the Professional Photographers of Canada, Northern Ontario Branch. Somewhere past Parry Sound, but before Sudbury I found this small road-side lake with an incredible stillness and soft mist rising from the ground. I had left early enough just in case I saw something like this so pulled over.
There were numerous photo opportunities here but this was one of my favourites. I love the square format and this composition lent itself perfectly to the square. I printed this on a fine art textured paper with a natural white colour rather than the bright white to maintain the subtle shades of the mist and distant trees.
St. Ann's Catholic Church from across Penetanguishene Bay. The snow was falling quite heavily to create a Winter 'postcard picture' of the Town of Penetanguishene. I was tempted to photograph this in B&W, but the colours were so subtle anyway, I decided to leave it in colour.
Farm Stand, Tiny Township, Ontario
I was meeting up with some buddies at my studio but stopped along the way to photograph this Lone Maple. Only camera with me was my trusty #X100T. Not the focal length (23mm/35mm equiv.) I would have chosen, but I’m glad I didn’t have a choice. Absolutely love this image. The light was so flat and lack of colour in the scene makes the image look black and white.

This is what happens when a cottager brings in plants to decorate their landscape. These Orange Lilies are everywhere on this small Georgian Bay Island, invasive, but beautiful at the same time.
#15235-2934
This large, old barn in Tiny Township has been around for many years, but has certainly required some TLC to keep it here. The sky was amazing and the otherwise ‘grayish’ tones of the day lead to a dramatic B&W image.

That’s Giant’s Tomb in the background and I’m standing on the edge of Gin Rocks in the Georgian Bay Islands National Park.
This image is also available in Black and White.

I also have a colour version of this particular sunset, but for some reason this composition screamed Black & White. The soft graduated tones in the water contrasting against the deep blacks of the rock and multitude of shades in the sky compelled me towards B&W.

I pass this location, usually on my motorcycle because I like the road, and have always wanted to photograph some of the twisted trees along the roadside. I’m not sure why so many of the trees here are like this, but decided to stop this day and photograph them. The title came quite easily.
#K192-3474
I hadn’t been to Brebeuf Island Lighthouse, now a Coast Guard post in Georgian Bay, for over twenty years, but it hadn’t changed much. The rocks were the same, a few trees were missing and there were a few new ones. But it was the grasses that I remembered the most, besides the lighthouse of course. I wandered around trying to avoid the typical‘reflection of the lighthouse in the pool of water’ image and concentrated on the golden grasses as my foreground for this composition. The low angle of the sun painted the grasses with the perfect colour and glow in contrast to the deep blue of the sky.

I've been looking for a Birch Tree to photograph for quite some time. I've searched forests and wooded areas all around Ontario and beyond. Then I came upon this one, at the side of the road on my way home from work one day. Printed 8 feet tall and seventeen inches wide, this images makes a bold statement in any home.
A tangled web of Cedar trees along the side of County Rd 92 outside Elmvale, Ontario. Nothing much is going to get through this.

Sunsets at the Gin Rocks are simply beautiful. You need a boat captain that’s willing to steer the craft home in the dark though as you’ll want to catch every last glimmer of light.
#K192-3355
Another image of the iconic Brebeuf Lighthouse. I got a little wet with this shot as i had to wade out quite a distance to get the foreground I envisioned for this photograph. The colours were stunning this day.
#K192-3362
Brebeuf Lighthouse from the Island Edge is another version of this beautiful landscape. The patterns in the rock changed with every step producing a totally different viewpoint to capture.
Dry Creek Falls on the Pacific Crest Trail. Quite the hike to get here but totally worth it. This was the last stop on a week long trip to photograph the waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon.

The first of the “Imperial Tower” lighthouses to be completed and the first official lighthouse on Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay. Constructed in 1857, it was one of 6 similar lighthouses commissioned by the of Province of Canada West. The lighthouse was contracted to stone mason John Brown of Thorold Ontario.
The light stands 55’ in height to the focal plane. It’s walls are constructed of hand faced limestone, 6 feet thick at ground level. The stone was quarried from the Niagara Escarpment and delivered to the site by sailing vessels, several of which were lost to severe weather before reaching their destination.
While visiting my old home, Kingston, Ontario. We wandered the downtown district and came across this alley in behind the shops and stores. It looked to me like a shortcut to the next street over. We didn't go down, but the title stuck with me, The Shortcut.
Found this beautiful pot of Mums on the front porch in the small hamlet of Horning’s Mills, one of my favourite villages to photograph and at the end of an amazing road to ride motorcycle. I never fail to come away with a great image from this place. This day was no exception!
This collage is made up of 20 images I photographed in a friend’s farm workshop. My brother-in-law was rebuilding a truck, parts and pieces can be found throughout the collage. Every direction I turned the camera captured a unique view, but with the same theme. One of my most popular prints with the guys for their Man Cave.
Part of a series I photographed one afternoon 'down south'. I spent about 4 hours watching these 'old-timey' farmers take turns cutting and binding the wheat and then I drove the tractor while they loaded the hay wagon. Quite an experience! Hard to believe these guys do it for fun - it was hard work!
Sometime while shooting a job, you come across an image that is hard to resist. I was photographing a Bed & Breakfast and came across these beautiful yellow Tulips on display in the kitchen. Photographed with my FujiFilm X100T, natural light.

I envision these three windswept Pines as growing up together on Brebeuf Island in Georgian Bay. Similar ages, but grew up quite differently though just metres apart. The clouds were stunning that afternoon.

Panther Creek Falls is a 130-foot waterfall on Panther Creek in the Wind River Valley in Skamania County, Washington. The waterfall consists of two drops, with the largest at a height of 102 feet. The waterfall is perennial.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panther_Creek_Falls

One of my first digital images. A Still Life of Gerbera Daisies photographed in my studio on a cold, rainy day. Photographed on the revolutionary Nikon D1 with a whopping 2.54 Megapixels. This was one of my entries to earn an Accreditation in Fine Art Photography from the Professional Photographers of Canada.
While waiting for a portrait client to get ready, I had the opportunity to photograph in their garden. These steps drew my attention but the sun was in the "wrong" place. So, I used it to my advantage to capture "The Secret Garden".
